| Note 3 |
yes, It's the samsung Galaxy Note 3, one of the most awaited smartphones of the year.
A premium looker after so long
Coming to the design of the phone first thing that grabs attention is faux leather on the back instead of the plastic for which the samsung has received criticism in the past. The faux leather which is actually a synthetic material does look premium but once you remove the leather cover it feels and looks cheap, better than glossy plastic but no match for aluminum or glass bodies of other flagships.
But despite of that Note 3's build quality is very good. It feels premium and durable. It is lighter than Note 2 despite of having the bigger screen. All in all it looks and feels better than Note 2 as it is slimmer and lighter. But the thing that really makes it stand out from the rest of the competition is it's S pen.
Specs and features
Note 3 is powered by top of the line specs and a whooping Super AMOLED display. Samsung GALAXY Note 3 delivers a larger and better screen for the best viewing experience and more powerful multitasking. Let's have a quick look at the specs-OS - Android 4.3
Processor - 2.27GHz Quad core Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 or Exynos 5420 Octa (4 cores run at 1.9GHz + four cores run at 1.3GHz)
GPU- Mali T628 or Adreno 330
Storage - 32gb inbuilt storage (expandable by up to 64GB)
RAM - 3GB
Screen - 5.7in Super AMOLED Plus with 1920x1080 resolution
Camera - 13MP with 1080p recording and 2MP front
Connectivity: 2G, 3G, 4G, Wi-Fi, USB 3.0, Bluetooth, GPS
Battery - 3200mAh
The Galaxy Note 3 packs two different processors and GPU's depending on the region. The first CPU is Samsung's own Exynos 5 Octa processor and the other is Qualcomm's mighty Snapdragon 800 quad-core processor.
Smart Features
A power packed phone with latest specs is definately one of the biggest plus points but that's not all, the thing that could really make it smartphone of the year is the prescence of smart and distinctive features like air view, multi window, S pen functionality, display and last but not the least it's Camera.Hovering the S Pen above the screen and clicking its button brings up an Air Command menu wheel. There are five features in air command which pops up namely action memo, pen window, S finder, screen writer and screen blocker.
A brilliant camera
The note 3's camera is definately one of the beast out there, the colours appear brighter, natural and vivid. There is a 13mp shooter on the back and a 2mp shooter on the front. Low light photographs also looks good but improvement is needed on this front as sometimes the pictures aren't as bright as you expect in indoors from a flagship device.
The Smart Gear
The other debutant along side Note 3 was the much hyped Galaxy Smart Gear.
Gear is capable of making calls, capturing photos and videos as well as showing notifications like messages, social media updates, health data etc.
But as I said above it was hyped so much that it's funcionality and offerings didn't met the expectations. It is somewhat bulky and boring but is wearable and all in all it looks okay and nothing much stylish or cool. It is only compatible with Note 3 and Galaxy Note 10.1 as of now. Also it is good for nothing when not connected to the phone via bluetooth. All of it's major functionality works when connected to phone otherwse it's a just a piece of steel sitting on your wrist. Gear will be compatible with the Galaxy S4, Galaxy S3 and Note 2 soon.
The Gear does have a lot of room for improvement but on the other hand it is also the most advanced smartwatch out there.
